An “alternative event” hosted by the University of Illinois Student Government (ISG) culminated in protesters halting last weekend’s homecoming parade and apparently assaulting a police officer.
Video footage obtained by Campus Reform shows protesters shoving a police officer against the hood of a car during the demonstration against "Chief Illiniwek," a former mascot that many consider offensive.
Despite ISG's sponsorship of the protest, student body president Raneem Shamseldin insisted that “we are not responsible for any violence" because no criminal charges have been filed.
