SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Senate passed in a 48 to 0 vote Friday another effort to automatically register to vote persons applying for drivers' licenses.
Shortly after the vote, the same group - Asian Americans Advancing Justice - that boasted getting the sanctuary state legislation (#ILTrustAct) out of the Senate, bragged their part in pushing forward automatic voter registration (#AVRinIL). The group's tweet featured photos of the legislation's lead Democrat sponsor in the Senate Daniel Biss, as well as Republican Senator Sam McCann.
(Note: Senator McCann voted against the sanctuary bill Thursday. He voted for the automatic voter registration bill, as did all other voting senators, both Republican and Democrat.)
"Big week for @AAAJ_Chicago & @JustDemocracyIL & #WelcomingIL allies passing #AVRinIL and #ILTrustAct out of state senate!" the group said.
Last month on their website, Asian Americans Advancing Justices celebrated the Federal court blocking President Trump's second attempt to protect Americans from dangerous threats entering the country.
“We applaud the court for recognizing the blatant discriminatory intent behind the executive order,” said Elica Vafaie, Staff Attorney and Program Manager at Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Asian Law Caucus. “If this is implemented, it will have devastating consequences for our communities.”
They also condemned Trump's nomination of Jeff Sessions for U.S. Attorney General.
