NEW YORK - Rather than at the Trump Tower in Chicago, Donald Trump made his announcement that he's jumping into the 2016 presidential race at the Trump Tower in New York Tuesday morning.
Others that have announced their bids include governors Jeb Bush, Rick Perry, Mike Huckabee, present and past federal lawmakers Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz and Rick Santorum and non-politicians Carly Florina and Ben Carson.
Others that are hinting, but haven't announced include governors John Kasich, Bobby Jindal, Chris Christie and Scott Walker.
USAToday reports that Trump wants America to raise its brand name:
Trump made the announcement at Trump Tower in New York, descending on a escalator to stand at the podium before a backdrop of American flags. He portrayed himself as a tough negotiator and entrepreneur who can succeed where political leaders have failed.
"Our country is in serious trouble," he told them in a rambling address that ranged from the threat from ISIS to the value of fracking to the recent prison escape in New York. "We don't have victories any more....When was the last time anybody saw us beating, let's say, China in a trade deal? They kill us. I beat China all the time. All the time."
Real Clear Politics currently shows Bush, Rubio and Walker leading the race in the 10 percent range. As of June 15, Trump was polling at a little over three percent. (Click on image to enlarge.)
