SPRINGFIELD - Worker's Compensation was the topic of a House discussion called by Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) Tuesday afternoon at the State Capitol.
Governor Bruce Rauner is calling for reforms to the state's laws as bargaining chips for state budget compromise.
The way preparations were handled frustrated Republican State Rep. Mike Unes of Canton, who voiced his disapproval during Tuesday's discussion.
"With very little notice, legislators were notified Speaker Madigan was convening a 'Committee of the Whole' on Tuesday regarding Worker's Compensation," Unes said. "The witness list of who would be testifying was supplied to the minority caucus 20 minutes before the Committee began. Not exactly a model of transparency and good government."
Uses said Madigan's hearing was "far more about good theater than good public policy."
"It's unfortunate and I hope we give this topic the serious debate it deserves and invite everyone to the table the next time we discuss this important issue," Unes said.
