WASHINGTON DC - Illinois Congressman Aaron Schock is having a bad week. In the middle of a media swarm about his Capitol Hill office decor, one of his advisors has resigned following disclosure that he made "racially charged" comments on his Facebook page.
Schock accepted the resignation of Benjamin Cole after a report was published by ThinkProgress.org, a left-of-center website asserting a series of Cole’s Facebook posts were racist.
In a statement first released to the Peoria Journal-Star, Schock said, "I am extremely disappointed by the inexcusable and offensive online comments made by a member of my staff. I would expect better from any member of my team. Upon learning about them I met with Mr. Cole and he offered his resignation which I have accepted.”
Cole, who is an ordained Southern Baptist pastor, was part of Schock's media team.
