Texas U.S. Senator Ted Cruz needs to be controlled, IL U.S. Senator Dick Durbin says
CHICAGO - U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), whose party was soundly rebuked by the nation's voters in November, will no longer be calling directional shots for the U.S. Senate when the new session starts in January and Republicans assume majority.
Still, he had a few words of advice for the incoming Senate Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky): Get Ted Cruz under control.
“They’ve got to control [Cruz] and a few others,” Durbin told the Chicago Sun-Times when asked what advice he would offer to the GOP next year. “Just like [U.S. Speaker John] Boehner has to contend with the Tea Party in the House, Cruz and a few others have the potential of wrecking any agenda [GOP leader Mitch] McConnell comes up with. So he has to control his caucus.”
Cruz and others stirred controversy over the weekend when they made an effort in the U.S. Senate to cut funding to President Obama's amnesty for illegal immigrants.
