UPDATE x1: American 21st Century Bridge just posted a response to Rauner's ad HERE.
CHICAGO - Bruce Rauner's latest attempt to connect with Illinois voters via campaign ad follows the $18 Timex watch theme he introduced last year - but this time it's his 20 year old Volkswagen van with 200,000 miles.
"My kids call it 'the rolling trash can," Rauner says.
He goes on to say that instead of flying taxpayer-funded jets from Chicago to Springfield like Governor Quinn does, he'll live in Springfield and drive his old van to work because "The Capitol needs a good trash can."
Rauner's wealth has been an issue throughout the campaign, as at one time he called for a decrease or elimination of the minimum wage, while revealing he made $53 million in 2013. Governor Quinn's running mate Paul Vallas told reporters this week that "Bruce Rauner's too rich to be governor."
