WASHINGTON – Thursday, American Conservative Union (ACU) Chairman Al Cardenas and ACU Foundation Chairman Carly Fiorina honored Rep. Randy Hultgren (IL-14) as an “ACU Conservative” for his achievements in the 2013 ACU Ratings of Congress, the 43rd edition of the conservative ratings guide.
Congressman Hultgren received a rating of 84, the highest of any member of Illinois congressional delegation. The 2013 ACU Ratings of Congress includes scores for each individual member in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. “ACU Conservatives,” are members recognized for scoring 80 percent or higher.
“Conservatives have a responsibility to fight the out-of-control growth of government in Congress. We are proud to honor the fine work of Rep. Hultgren in that battle,” said ACU Chairman Al Cardenas.
“As the executive branch fights tooth and nail to expand its reach into the lives of Americans, it is imperative conservatives in the House continue to defend constitutionally limited government, individual liberty, free markets, a strong national defense and traditional American values,” said Rep. Hultgren.
“I voted for legislation supporting these principles, from protecting the unborn from abortions past the point at which a fetus can feel pain, to ensuring welfare programs maintain key work requirements, to protecting funding for our missile defense program. In the face of hardened opposition to our shared values, this next year I urge the House to fight for the conservative principles which provide the foundation for our nation’s strength.”
Throughout the 44 year history of the conservative ratings program, ACU has become the go-to source for determining whether a federal elected official’s philosophical rhetoric matches his or her record. The guides provide a comprehensive analysis of the legislative landscape over the preceding year. This differentiates ACU from other guides which may emphasize single areas, like taxes, defense, or social policy. ACU’s scored votes are not announced in advance, ensuring that its scores provide a more accurate reflection of an elected official’s philosophy of government.
“The 2013 Ratings show a continued commitment by Rep. Hultgren to the conservative principles that will contribute to the revitalization of America,” said ACU Foundation Chairman Carly Fiorina.
Illinois Congress members rated from Republican Hultgren's 84 down to Democrat Congressman Luis Gutierrez' 4.
