On Tuesday, September 3, the Heartland Institute held the first of an exclusive conference call series previewing the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change's (NIPCC) "Climate Change Reconsidered II: Physical Science" ahead of its press conference release in Chicago on September 17th. A digital copy will be released on the same date. The second volume, "Climate Change Reconsidered II: Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability" is slated for release in March of 2014. Special guests on the conference call were Joseph Bast, President and CEO of The Heartland Institute and Craig D. Idso, one of three lead authors of "Climate Change Reconsidered II."
All in all, the two volumes taken together represent a massive work of about 40 authors, contributors, and reviewers, 1,200 pages, and thousands of citations. The seven chapters of Volume One will address Global Climate Models; Forcings and Feedbacks; Solar Forcing of Climate; Observations: Temperature; Observations: The Cryosphere; Observations: The Hydrosphere; and Observations: Extreme Weather.
Following the Chicago release, activities on September 17 - 18 of Volume One, additional release events will take place the following week in the U.S. in Washington, D.C., New York, Boston, and Florida (and possibly Texas), and the following week in London, Munich and Amsterdam.
The NIPCC has produced two previous editions of "Climate Change Reconsidered" in 2009 and 2011. The project is cosponsored by The Heartland Institute, Fred Singer's Science and Environmental Policy Project, and Craig Idso's Center for the Study of Carbon Dioxide and Global Change.
Of note, and indeed an historic moment for The Heartland Institute, is that "Climate Change Reconsidered," translated into Chinese, was published by a division of the prestigious Chinese Academy of Sciences composed of 1,000s of scientist. Furthermore, on June 15th of this year four of the authors participated in a workshop on climate change issues held in Beijing at which they presented their findings to members of the Chinese climate science community. Observed was that Chinese scientists were concerned with the truth and what the data showed. There was a definite trend toward skepticism and away from alarmism.
Like its predecessor volumes in the series, "Climate Change Reconsidered II" provides the scientific balance that is missing from the overly alarmists reports of the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change, whichhave become controversial with regard to their projections of future climate change. Frequently IPCC reports are cited as the basis for taking action to stop or slow the advance of climate change.
In 2012, a prominent climate scientist named Peter Gleick stole the identity of a member of The Heartland Institute’s board of directors in order to obtain budget documents, and then circulated the stolen documents along with a fake memo purporting to describe Heartland’s strategies in the climate change debate. The incident has come to be known as “Fakegate,” and it illustrated what global warming alarmists will resort to, if an organization dares to question the science-is settled-mantra of the Alarmists in regard to the cause and the extent of man-made global warming.
With this in mind, and knowing that "Climate Change Reconsidered II: Physical Science" would be met with resistance by Global Warming Alarmists after notice of its release appears, Heartland president, Joseph Bast, presented as the purpose of the advance release call ways in which some of the folks on this call might help, which now includes an overture to you.
- Report the release of the book on your blogs, web posts, newsletters, Facebook, etc.
- Write reviews of the book once you're had a chance to see it online.
- Attend or even help host some events, conference calls, or briefings or the authors.
- Defend the book and its authors from the inevitable attacks likely to come from the professional activists.
