SPRINGFIELD - In a 66 to 52 vote, House members from both sides of the aisle voted to re-affrim and "update" or modernize the sex education curriculum in Illinois. The sponsor assured inquirers that parents would have the right to exempt their children from the classes and what is age appropriate would be decided at the local level. HB 2675 was supported by the ACLU, among other groups.
Democrats Beiser, Bradley, Costello, Flowers and Scherer voted opposite their caucuses with "NO" votes, and Republicans Cross and Hatcher voted against their caucuses with "YES" votes.
