CHICAGO - Twenty-eight aldermen have joined the left-wing Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights in urging lawmakers to pass legislation during the fall veto session to give drivers' licenses to illegal aliens.
They argue that allowing undocumented immigrants to be trained, tested, and licensed will make the roads safer. It will also open up a whole new group of people who can be exploited for political contributions in exchange for licenses -- like George Ryan did. After all, it's the Illinois way.
The aldermen also said allowing individuals who have already broken the law to get a legal form of identification will take in additional government revenue in the process, which has also become very "Illinois."
