HOMER TOWNSHIP - "Unfunded Pension Liabilities, just one more reason to go to your school board meeting," is the heading on an email alert from Homer-Lockport Tea Party Monday, published by group leaders Steve Ballich and Vivienne Porter.
If the Illinois General Assembly votes this month to transfer pension liabilities to local school districts, the weight of the debt will fall on local property tax owners - both residential and business.
"We wanted to give you some real numbers to help everyone understand what the unfunded pension liability problem looks like, and what impact it will have on the individual taxpayers," the Tea Party email reads.
Below are the amounts of annual unfunded pensions for the Tinley Park School Districts. Governor Quinn, Senate President John Cullerton and House Speaker Mike Madigan are talking about passing these unfunded amounts back to the school districts. These amounts are crippling, they say, because the amounts will be tacked onto current operating budgets.
- District 228 - 8.5 Million Annually (Bremen High School District)
- District 230 - $5-$14 Million Annually (Sandburg, Victor and Andrew High School District)
- District 146 - $1.6 Million Annually (Grade School District)
- District 140 - $5 Million Annually (Grade School District)
