From Kinzinger for Congress campaign -
Rockford, Ill. – Today, State Representative Dave Winters (R-Rockford) endorsed Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) for the newly drawn 16th Congressional District. Representative Winters represents portions of Congressman Manzullo's current district in the Winnebago County area, including Rockford, Loves Park, Machesney Park, Rockton, Roscoe and South Beloit.
Shortly after the new map was announced for the Illinois’ State Legislature, Representative Winters made the decision to retire rather than run against another Republican. An eighteen-year representative, Winters felt it was time to step aside and allow a fresh voice to run for the 68th District.
“I’m supporting Congressman Kinzinger because he exemplifies the new generation of leadership that is desperately needed in Washington,” said Winters. “Congressman Kinzinger is a strong conservative who is fighting against the Washington agenda and will bring representation to the new 16th District. In less than a month, Congressman Kinzinger has held ten open town hall meetings to hear directly from the people. Rockford needs an energetic voice in Congress who is back here constantly meeting with folks all across our District.”
“Representative Winters has been a strong advocate for Winnebago County in Springfield,” said Kinzinger. “He’s been committed to serving the people of the 68th District and took an active role to help determine the policy positions of the Republican caucus and in floor debate. I’m truly honored to have Representative Winter’s support.
“I agree with the Representative that Congress needs a fresh approach, with strong, conservative voices that will restore government back into the hands of the people and fight tooth and nail to create an environment where more private-sector jobs can be created and where government will become less relevant in your everyday life.
“We must send strong voices that will carry out the people’s agenda. The most important role of a representative is to hear from his or her constituents. Just this last weekend, I held three town hall meetings in the new 16th District. Yet, Congressman Manzullo hasn’t held a public event since Congress broke for recess last week.
“Voting the right way is simply not enough in this new House Republican majority—not if we are going to keep the majority. In this battle to prevent a liberal agenda takeover, we need articulate Members of Congress who have the ability to stand up and fight for the conservative voice to stop the runaway spending, restore faith in our markets, limit the size and scope of our government and ensure that the people have a representative who’s more eager to be in the new 16th District than in Washington.”
Congressman Kinzinger has held over 30 town hall meetings and forums throughout his first year in Congress and visited every area of the district he serves on a regular basis. This has allowed him to have an open and honest discussion with folks back home about what’s going on in Washington and to hold him accountable for his work in Congress.
Adam Kinzinger is a freshman serving in the United States Congress. He was sworn into Congress in January 2011 and was named to the Energy and Commerce Committee, the House Transition Team and is a Republican Deputy Whip. Kinzinger also serves in the Air National Guard, while in Congress, with the current rank of Captain.
