AURORA - The growling and snarling over an open GOP seat has begun in Illinois' 25th Senate District.
State Senator Chris Lauzen (R-Aurora) announced recently he's leaving the Illinois Senate in 2012, choosing instead to run for Kane County Board Chairman. Now it looks like thousands if not millions of dollars may be spent in a Republican primary to succeed Lauzen in his long-held 25th district.
Primaries aren't always bad, but they can be dangerous when they take place in secure Republican districts.
Who's encouraging these candidates to pit against one another instead of focusing on the goal of defeating Democrats? Somehow political consultants and their self-promoting industry comes to mind ...
Oh, yes, we forgot, they're altruistic in their motives to make Illinois conservative. And the Democrat Liberals laugh and laugh. From the Kane County Chronicle
[Blackberry Township supervisor] Dave Richmond might face several challengers for the Republican nomination. Sugar Grove Village President Sean Michels has said he also intends to run for the nomination, and will formally announce in a "week or two."
Michels lost to Lauzen in the 2010 primary.
Other candidates rumored to be seeking the seat include State State Rep. Mike Fortner, R-West Chicago, and former congressional candidate and dairy businessman Jim Oberweis.
Looks like the folks in the 25th have several great choices to follow Lauzen. Why not get together and work something out, Kane County GOP? Wouldn't it be better to have more Republicans in the Senate along with your new senator?
