This past February Senator Maloney took steps in the Illinois General Assembly to make mandatory registration of homeschooling families part of Illinois State law. Homeschoolers would not stand for it and flooded the state capital with phone calls along with one of the largest public demonstrations of homeschoolers ever assembled.
Though the senator's legislation failed to make it out of committee during the 2010-2011 legislative session, an increased number of local truancy ordinances have popped up around the state and alert homeschooling families have been working to maintain our freedoms. Given the fact that most of these local situations fly under the radar and are often voted into local law before the general public understands their ramifications, it is imperative that homeschooling families be prepared to act and to work together to ensure homeschooling freedom for future generations.
To that end, the newly formed Illinois Homeschool PAC is coming to the Canton area for an evening of question and answers and the opportunity to network for the good of all homeschooling families. There will be a special honor acknowledged this evening too. Please come and participate.
Following that, put this on your calendar for next week.
Illinois State Rep. Pam Roth (R-75) was an early and vocal opponent of SB 136. The Illinois Homeschool PAC is honored that she will join us in Morris for this informal roundtable with local homeschoolers to discuss the issues important to home educators. This roundtable will begin at 7 p.m. and go roughly until 8 p.m. Please come and show Representative Roth that we're engaged and appreciate her support, regardless of whether you live in the Morris area or not.
The Illinois Homeschool PAC is the only Illinois political action committee that is singularly focused on protecting the rights of Illinois home educators.
