Sandy Cole supporters attack GOP prolife candidates

When voters in the 62nd District received a late mailer from Personal PAC on behalf of Sandy Cole for State Representative, they were told ominously that her challenger in Tuesday's Republican primary, Paul Mitchell, had a 100% rating from the Illinois Federation for Right to Life (IFRL).

The mailer, apparently sent only to female names in the district, boldly announces "Personal PAC Urges You to Vote NO ON PAUL MITCHELL."

The Mitchell campaign hopes that Sandy's friends aren't painting with too broad a brush:  Republican gubernatorial candidates Jim Ryan, Kirk Dillard, Bill Brady, Adam Andrejewski, and Dan Proft, as well as Republican 8th District Congressional candidates Maria Rodriguez and Joe Walsh, have all likewise been given 100% ratings from the IFRL.

On Saturday Andy McKenna and Matt Murphy joined dozens of volunteers in their Chicago campaign headquarters phone banking. The McKenna Campaign had four phone banks running across the state and made over 5,000 calls.

A few months ago, I started calling Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, "Princess Pelosi". I did that because I thought it was catchy. While I had my suspicions, I had no idea to the extent that our dear Speaker thinks of herself as a princess.

Judicial Watch filed FOIA requests to determine the costs of the trips that Speaker Pelosi has taken over the last two years. The summary of their findings can be found here and a listing of the documents that were gathered can be found here. What this FOIA request uncovered was that our dear Speaker has spent over $2 million in the last two years traveling around the country and the world. The sad thing is, that is not the most infuriating part. Doug Ross has a excellent roundup of the excesses that were found, in addition to what Mr. Ross points out, here are some other interesting little tidbits.

Brady says McKenna should come clean on ethics violation

Following the release this morning by Illinois Review of the entire McKenna Report, Republican candidate for Governor Bill Brady today called on Andy McKenna to come clean on the ethics review and reimburse the Republican Party for the funds he misspent on a poll that benefitted him.

“Andy has tried for weeks to cover this up and keep the public from knowing the whole truth,” Brady said, “and we now we know why. With all the documents and exhibits, it reads like a Blagojevich indictment.  Andy should have just been up front all along.”

Pullen aims at Coulson in the 10th

Meister drops U.S. Senate run, endorses Giannoulias

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that, "Democratic Senate candidate Jacob Meister is dropping out of the race with two days to go and endorsing Alexi Giannoulias, both campaigns said today.

Meister, a lawyer who is openly gay, is expected to make his announcement this morning at a Giannoulias rally in Chicago. Meister was having difficulty gaining much traction in the race. A recent Tribune poll showed him garnering only 1 percent of support."

ACORN: Coming to an Illinois Voting Booth Near You?

When ACORN was caught stacking voter rolls with fake names leading up to the 2008 election, we stood up and took notice. Maybe an aberration, maybe part of a plan to undermine our system of elections. On Election Day, Black Panthers were inside a Pennsylvania polling station intimidating voters. They ultimately got off and the prosecutor who went after them was “reassigned”. Still, maybe it is simply coincidence. What if a high-profile state Attorney General argued that voters have no right to vote in secret?

Dillard Suspends Weekend Tour

Heads, Obama wins, tails, Republicans lose

President Barack Obama has his own unique way of looking at the world. If you challenge his policy ideas, you are guilty of being "partisan." But if you abandon your principles to adopt his ideas instead, that is wonderful "bi-partisanship" to be praised. To his credit, the President went to Baltimore to meet with members of the U.S. House Republican caucus.  He was articulate and they were much less so which made for good TV sound bites. One of the more humorous clips shows Mr. Obama declaring "I am not an ideologue." The statement stirred some understandable laughter in the room and Obama said, "I'm not."

We urge the Illinois media to confront him with these questions:

—You may be the only candidate in Illinois history who has been found to have violated your last employer’s (Illinois State Party) Code of Conduct and never once answered a question about it, except to say, “the matter is closed.”  Will you come clean with Illinois voters before Tuesday?

Those who support candidates such as Mark Kirk may be quick to condemn this video and perhaps claim that such activity is simply how things work in politics. They may be correct, but that does not mean this sliminess is "right"!

Andrzejewski boosted by out-of-country and out-of-state support

Still basking in yesterday's stellar endorsement by Nobel Peace Prize winner Lech Walesa, the Andrzejewski campaign says this weekend the Central Illinois Tea Party will announce its endorsement of their candidate at a Springfield pizzeria Sunday evening.

Liz Eiler of the Andrzejewski campaign says volunteers from Bozeman Montana have arrived in Illinois to boost the campaign's efforts along with Tea Party and "9-12" groups which are making calls into Illinois on Andrzejewski's behalf.

"This is the same trend that helped Scott Brown take the US Senate seat in MA formerly held for decades by Ted Kennedy," Eilers wrote in an email.

Recent polling indicates Andrzejewski has at less than 10% of likely Republican votes for Tuesday's primary.

Pro-abortion PAC mails for GOP House's Bassi

Personal PAC is determined to keep a dependable pro-abortion lawmaker in the GOP House Caucus -- State Rep. Susie Bassi (R-Palatine). Bassi's facing a stiff challenge from 34 year old Tom Morrison, who's focused on the stark contrasts between the incumbent and himself. Morrison's commitment to protecting yet-to-be-born humans is what especially irks Personal PAC, and has caused them to invest over $7000 this week towards postage and mailing to attack Morrison on the life issue.

Democratic donor backs Gorman endorsed 37th House candidate

Cook County Commissioner Liz Gorman insists Molly McAvoy Flynn is a great Republican candidate, who Gorman has talked to and in which Gorman has full confidence will be a great GOP challenger to 37th Dist. State Rep. Kevin McCarthy in 2010. McCarthy is a longtime Democrat state rep for Gorman's home district, and hasn't had a stiff Republican challenge in years. When asked in a recent interview, Gorman, who is Orland Township's GOP Committeeman, wasn't worried that Flynn didn't circulate her own nominating petitions, but rather only a couple of guys from Chicago's 19th Ward hit the streets on Flynn's behalf. Gorman pushed her township endorsement to Flynn and encouraged Worth Township to do the same. (IR interview with Gorman is below.)

But fellow 37th House GOP candidate Jeff Junkas isn't falling for what he sees as Gorman and Flynn's slick political tactics. This morning Junkas points out another strong Democratic link for Flynn -- a generous $2750 donation from RAI Services reported on a Flynn A1 this morning.

Sheriff Zaruba endorses Ryan for Governor

ELMHURST—Sheriff John Zaruba leads a flotilla of top elected officials who now support Jim Ryan for Governor. Zaruba’s nod is latest in a series of major endorsements in the state’s second largest county. Just a few days earlier, County Board Chairman Bob Schillerstrom and State’s Attorney Joe Birkett endorsed Ryan.

“Our momentum is building throughout the state and especially in DuPage County. On Tuesday, it will be Jim Ryan Country once again,” he said.

A campaign's contributions during the final week are crucial to the candidate's strategy in the final hours.  Illinois law requires candidates to report donations over $500 electronically within 48 hours during a campaign's last 30 days.

McKenna pulls in $1.5 million

Illinois State Board of Elections records show GOP gubernatorial candidate Andy McKenna is where Illinois'' big individual donors seem to be placing their bets, throwing in over half a million towards a GOP primary winner next Tuesday. No one's betting higher on a McKenna win than the McKenna family itself, who's loaned the campaign an additional million plus this past week, bringing McKenna's contribution total up to $1.5 million in seven days.

Other donors who've bet $25,000 or more on McKenna in the primary's closing days include Chicago area donors Paul Davies, James Farrell, Mary Tolan, Burt Getz, David Herro, Christopher Reyes, Jude Reyes, Donald Wilson, Kevin O'Hara, Michael Keiser and Craig Ducchossois.

Chicago Tea Party Rally features Walesa, Andrzejewski, others

As a Patrick Hughes for Senate supporter, I traveled by train with other Lake Forest women to attend a Tea Party Rally, not realizing that the Friday, January 29th, 2:30 p.m. Tea Party Rally at the Federal Dirksen Plaza in Chicago was sponsored by The Chicago Tea Party, headed by Catherina Wojtowicz, to endorse Adam Andrzejewski for Governor.

With my Patrick Hughes sign held high I entered the Dirksen Plaza, only to be greeted by Andrzejewsi signs surrounding a speaker platform and sound system. Although I knew that Solidarity Leader and Polish President Lech Walesa -- winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983 -- was to endorse Adam at the Rally, I subsequently learned that prior to Walesa's appearance at the Rally he had made remarks on behalf of Adam at a fundraising luncheon held at the Union Club of Chicago.

When your child is handed a death sentence by a doctor and the family is forced to make decisions about the future, without the help of a crystal ball, nothing is more personal or traumatic.

Several years ago I received a phone call from my close friend Julie, who was in just such a position. She was heart broken, sobbing and desperate. Through tears she explained how she had just returned from a doctor’s appointment. The doctor informed her that her baby had Trisomy 13, a defect that would leave the baby so badly deformed he would not survive birth, and if he did, he would not live but a few hours longer. The financial and emotional toll on the family would be devastating, he warned. There was obviously only one answer: abort the baby as soon as possible.

Due to the “complication” of being a few months into the pregnancy, the doctor offered to take Julie out of state to have the abortion.

With links to Service Employees International Union, a 527 called TheTeaPartyisOver.org has targeted three congressional candidates -- 14th CD's Randy Hultgren, 10th CD's Arie Friedman and 11th CD's David McAloon.  All three are involved in tight GOP primaries to be decided February 2.

How both parties in DC waste time and money on trivial nonsense

What are they thinking of?  Sen. Orrin Hatch (Super Egotist Republican of Utah) and the crazoid Obama Justice Department apparently have way too much time on their hands.  Instead of looking for ways to help the economy recover, the frivolous and vain Sen. Hatch and the nothing-too-small-to-meddle-in Attorney General Eric Holder have decided that how college football championships are determined in bowl games somehow rises to the level of an urgent federal issue that demands to be investigated because of the possible "anti-trust" issues? Say what? 

Is it any wonder that so little gets accomplished in DC when the government worries about such trivial matters at a time when everyone claims that economic recovery should be the top priority? Early in his political career, Hatch once talked like a conservative who believed in limited government but he has clearly been in Washington way too long. Rasmussen shows Kirk at 53, Hughes at 18

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely Republican Primary voters in the state finds [Mark] Kirk leading attorney Patrick Hughes 53% to 18%. Twelve percent (12%) prefer some other candidate, and 18% are still undecided.

Conservatives have been critical of Kirk for some of his positions in the House, and Hughes, chairman of a group called Sensible Taxpayers Opposed to Increased Taxes, is challenging him from the political right. But 51% of conservative Republicans who plan to vote on Tuesday support Kirk versus 20% who are for Hughes.

Plummer distributed a questionable mail piece this week, alleging faults by three of the candidates (Brad Cole, Matt Murphy and Don Tracy) in the crowded election field. Today, a recorded voice message, or “robo call,” is questioning Brad Cole’s position on taxes and his record as Mayor.

In Early September of 2009 I kicked off my campaign for U.S. Senate in Illinois. I knew that Illinois needed a Conservative option on the ballot and Mark Kirk is no Conservative. So I began to travel the state and go wherever Republican voters had gathered. I went to township meetings, county party meetings, voter education fairs, candidate forums, debates, and whatever else you can think of. I traveled the Chicago suburbs, Rockford, Peoria, Bloomington, Champaign, Springfield, Alton, Effingham, Shelbyville, and anywhere else in the state that I could. I did it all for the voters of Illinois because I understood how important for them to know who the candidates are before they go vote on February 2nd.

Biggins to endorse McKenna

The McKenna campaign just notified reporters that this weekend longtime veteran State Rep. Bob Biggins will be endorsing Andy McKenna for Governor today.

"State Representative Bob Biggins’ endorsement is significant in that he represents a county where three of the six Republican gubernatorial candidates live," Trover writes. "It comes on the heels of another key endorsement in Kane County from Deputy Republican Leader Tim Schmitz."

 "We just wanted to come down, to just make sure we're available."

That is how it all started: a seven minute press conference held by Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias, his first since his family bank signed a consent order with banking regulators on Monday a move signaling serious fiscal challenges. But I soon found out that "availability" doesn't necessarily translate into accountability- at least not today. Either that, or my definition of "availability" means something different than the interpretation currently held by Giannoulias, now the state's sitting Treasurer. He was elected to that post after working from 2002-2006 as a senior loan officer and vice president at Chicago-based Broadway Bank, which was founded by his father Alexis. Although Giannoulias has left the bank, his older brother, Demetris, is the bank's CEO.

Tracy gets endorsements, explains Democratic history

Springfield, IL – Republican Candidate for Illinois Lieutenant Governor, Don Tracy, today accepted the endorsement of the Sangamon County Republican Party. Committeemen voted unanimously for Tracy Wednesday night.

In announcing the endorsement, Sangamon County Republican Party Chairman, Tony Libri, said “Don Tracy is the most qualified of the six Republican candidates to be the next Lieutenant Governor of Illinois”.

In accepting this endorsement, Tracy said, “I am delighted to receive this endorsement from one of the most prestigious, influential and active Republican organizations in Illinois, an organization that has a history of picking winners. This endorsement by my home county Republican Party is especially meaningful to me because one of my opponents is attacking me as not being a real Republican. 

Personal PAC blasts Higgins in 56th House

The radical pro-abort Personal PAC has chosen to get involved in the 56th House District GOP primary for Democrat incumbent State Rep. Paul Froehlich's open seat.  What makes Personal PAC's involvement in the 56th district race particularly unusual is that the choice in the GOP primary is between two prolife candidates -- Ryan Higgins and last election's GOP nominee Anita Forte-Scott.  Forte-Scott obviously is the one who will benefit from Personal PAC's mailing attacking Higgins prolife stance. 

Why would Personal PAC get involved in a prolife candidate primary?  Cynics would say it's because Higgins is the toughest of the two Republicans to beat in November.  Others would say perhaps Ms. Forte-Scott has suggested to Personal PAC she would be the more cooperative of the two GOP candidates.  Your guess is as good as ours.

Nevertheless, Personal PAC's not happy with their pro-abortion majority in the Illinois House. They want more pro-abortion lawmakers in Springfield.  Word is they'll be introducing the Freedom of Choice Act once again on February 10th to guarantee Illinois' abortion-embracing climate if Roe vs Wade were to be overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court.

BREAKING: Vrdolyak's parole overturned

Republican/Democrat political war lord Ed Vrdolyak's 5 years of probation isn't a strong enough punishment for what he did, a federal appeals court decided today. The court says Vrdolyak will go before a different sentencing judge and the 3 1/2 years in prison the feds wanted is back on the table. 

Today's ruling brought up a name former Attorney General Jim Ryan probably would have rather had remain muffled at least until after next Tuesday's GOP gubernatorial primary , but Ryan's generous benefactor and college roommate, Stu Levine, was Vrdolyak's partner in the scam. The Trib reports:

In a rare move, the U.S. attorney's office had appealed Shadur's sentence of five years' probation. The government had sought about 3½ years in prison.

Vrdolyak had pleaded guilty for his role in a kickback scheme in which a Gold Coast real-estate deal was rigged so he could secretly split a $1.5 million finder's fee with corrupt insider Stuart Levine.

Caprio to file FCC complaint against Plano radio station

Family-Pac, Illinois’ leading pro-family, anti-tax political action committee, plans to file a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission against WSPY Radio in Plano, Illinois after station owner Larry Nelson refused to run an ad supporting State Senator Chris Lauzen in the Republican Primary on Tuesday.

Family-Pac Director Paul Caprio said the ad is similar to hundreds of ads he has run on stations throughout the state of Illinois for and against candidates for office over the last 20 years.

In today's Southtown Star column, I write about the press conference held by U.S. Senate candidate Patrick Hughes' supporters this past Tuesday in Lockport.  A frustrated Hughes fan publicly challenged the campaign for not responding to his local paper's query.   

"Why did you ignore all the voters in our area?" he demanded.

Hughes' spokesman Charlie Johnston took the reins of the quickly-going-bad discussion and apologized for the missed opportunity.

Yeah. I’ve become convinced. That is a very bold statement, but the ferver for this guy is, among desperate voters in Illinois hungering for truth, honesty, and transparency in government, overwhelming. The movement to elect Adam Andrzejewski elected is akin to a quest. And outside of Illinois, he is on very few radars.

The following letter was released today by Rev. Isaac C. Hayes, the GOP nominee for Congress in IL-2, challenging the persistent indifference to Black Republican candidates by Black publications:

“As ‘minorities’ we have always called for diversity and tolerance” said Hayes, “yet within Black press there is no tolerance for Black Republicans and no willingness to embrace Black political diversity. My question is why not? Why are our press releases, letters to the editor, community events, and campaigns ignored? Is it not the responsibility of Black press to keep the Black community informed of what and who is impacting their lives?”
