Chicago Tribune is reporting tonight that Senator Dick Durbin and Governor Pat Quinn will be in DC tomorrow when the White House announces that Thomson Correctional Center has been chosen to transfer between 35 and 90 Gitmo prisoners being detained for alleged terrorist activities.
Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan has scheduled a public hearing after hosting a tour of the Thomson facility for state lawmakers next Monday. Opponents to the prison sale, including Tea Party supporters and a group called "Moms of Soldiers," are planning a protest outside Madigan's hearing. State lawmakers will need to vote upon selling the state property to the Federal government for housing the Gitmo prisoners.
More about Tuesday's announcement is available on the Chicago Tribune website.
