Few things sadden me. I try to keep a rosy outlook on life. On this site, I frequently post a "Friday Funny". When I see things from the left, I try to take it with a sense of humor instead of anger. Why let their goofiness spoil my day - I won't let them have that power over me.
Except this.
In addition to the recently released Department of Homeland Security (DHS) memo that excoriates "right wing" group, we now find out that the Department has been actively investigating veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan war. "Operation Vigilant Eagle" looks specifically at military veterans.
I understand part of this - only part. As much as this is an effort to protect veterans from the pull of these wacko groups, I applaud the efforts. We need to protect our veterans. Our brave men and women in the military need the support of our nation.
However, to target military veterans as suspects, just because they are veterans is appalling. The basis of these efforts is that our men and women coming back might have difficulty getting back into "normal" life. PERHAPS IF THE LEFT WOULD QUIT MAKING FUN OF THE MILITARY AND DENIGRATING THEM, THEY WOULDN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!! Click here, here, and here.
Maybe we could start treating our military men and women with respect. Maybe we could give them better wages. Maybe we could stop trying to take away their health benefits. Maybe we could let them know just how much we really appreciate them. If we did this, if they knew how special they are to us, the pull from these wacko groups would have no impact. We wouldn't need the DHS investigating them.
Next time you see a man or woman from the military, go up to them. Shake their hand and tell them "thank you for your service". If they are having lunch, just pay the bill for them anonymously. Next time you see a liberal politician that denigrates the military - push the button for THE OTHER CANDIDATE!!!
To my best buddy from high school, Randy, who came back from several tours in Iraq wounded, to my buddy Mike who's sons have served, to my wife's cousin who served several tours in Iraq as a Marine, and to all of the other Marine, Army, Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard veterans who have proudly and honorably served this nation - thank you. We couldn't live the freedom that we have without you.
