As we near the incomprehensible reality of Illinois' Barack Obama leading the now-Free World, it's perfectly fitting that the story of how Obama won IL's 2004 Democratic U.S. Senate primary and ultimately the General is retold and recounted as only conservative author Ann Coulter can do.
Indeed, Chapter 5 of her best-selling "Guilty" reviews how Obama and his political brain David Axelrod used the Chicago Tribune to dig into his opponents' tawdry and embarrassing divorce and child custody records in order to win both of that year's elections.
Coulter gets it right on Republican Jack Ryan, how the Chicago Tribune-contrived "sex-less" scandal and weak-spined Republicans who refused to support him destroyed Illinois' only realistic chance of keeping Obama within the state's borders in 2006.
We mentioned "Guilty" earlier this week, and an IR reader was offended by Coulter's photo on the front, so we won't run it again. But if conservatives don't get off their high horses and focus on what really matters -- like playing hardball against liberal whines and corrupt politicians -- we'll have another statewide embarrassment notch added in our belts...
Perhaps involving something that could yet once again be featured on SNL...?
