Thursday afternoon, the newly-formed House Gaming committee will hold one of its first hearings to accept or reject St. Rep. Lou Lang's HB 480, a 300+ page proposal that will
- add four casinos = 10,000 new gambling positions
- allow slot machines at racetracks -- 5 additional land-based casinos -- 3,800 additional gambling positions
- increase gambling positions by 800 at Illinois' nine existing casinos -- 7,200 new positions
HB 480 would allow 21,000 Illinoisans new access to gambling at any given time.

Massive Gambling Expansion Bill to be heard in Committee Feb. 15 at 4:00 p.m.
Rep. Lou Lang, Chairman of the House Gaming Committee, announced last week that HB 480 will be heard in the committee this Thursday. This massive gambling expansion bill will legalize:
· 4 additional casinos for the City of Chicago, South Suburbs, Waukegan, and a municipality 10 miles from O'Hare Airport—10,000 new gambling positions
· Slot machines at racetracks—5 additional land-based casinos—3,800 new gambling positions
· 800 additional gambling positions at existing casinos—7,200 new positions
Illinois currently has 9 casinos with 9,919 slot machines and 223 table games. HB 480 would legalize 21,000 new gambling positions at 9 sites to more than double the amount of casino gambling.
For Immediate Action
- If your state Representative is a member of the House Gaming Committee (see below) contact him/her and ask them to vote NO on HB 480.
- Call the Governor (800-642-3112) or e-mail http://www.illinois.gov/gov/contactthegovernor.cfm to ask him to oppose the massive expansion of gambling (HB 480).
