Please don't get all giddy about the . . . eww. . . revelation that Barack Obama did cocaine in high school as discussed in today's Washington Post and hitting the news cycles today.
There's a political strategy of "hanging a lantern" on potentially devastating secrets candidates have in their closets that could hurt them in the heat of a campaign. This "secret" is easily found in his autobiography. It's no secret.
Obviously, the Obama campaign has worked with the Post to reveal his cocaine use in high school to "hang that lantern," ride through some rocky news cycles, get some sympathetic fellow cocaine users who have kicked the habit to form a "Junkies for Obama '08" group, and hey, we're on our way to announcing a run for Prez!
This one won't stick. We'll hear about Bush's DUI and Clinton's "I didn't inhale" comments ad nauseum. Actually, this news now should put all questions aside. Obama's in.
