Don't you find it ironic that someone who has so little respect for traditional marriage that he adamantly opposed the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996 and says he would oppose a constitutional ban on gay marriage is the same person held up as part of an American marital bliss icon?
Don't be. When it comes to the media extolling the attributes of St. Barack, nothing should surprise us.
Next month, Illinois U.S. Senator Obama and his wife Michelle, dubbed one of Ebony's "Top 10 Hottest Couples," will grace the cover of Ebony Magazine with the words "America's Next First Couple?"
In 2004, Obama wrote an op ed for Chicago's Windy City Times which outlayed his political view on marriage:
For the record, I opposed DOMA [the Defense of Marriage Act] in 1996. It should be repealed and I will vote for its repeal on the Senate floor. I will also oppose any proposal to amend the U.S. Constitution to ban gays and lesbians from marrying. This is an effort to demonize people for political advantage, and should be resisted ...
Wonder if that matters to Ebony?
We'll see if the question is in the story when the mag hits the racks next month.
