Top Candidates Have Competitive Support Among Progressive Activists Obama 29, Edwards 26, Clinton 17 WASHINGTON, June 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., won the Politico.com's independent straw poll of progressive activists gathered at the Campaign for America's Future's "Take Back America" conference with 29 percent of the vote. Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., came in a close second with 26 percent of the vote and Sen. Hillary Clinton placed third with 17 percent of the vote. The remaining Democratic candidates earned support in the single digits with Gov. Bill Richardson, D-N.M., taking 9 percent and write-in candidate Al Gore with 8 percent.
