Illinois Governor's Race: What Should a Conservative Do?

Last night, I was talking to a person I respect tremendously in terms of their conservative take on the issues.  They related to me a recent meeting they had with a number of other conservatives.  At the end of the meeting, this person asked the assembled handful of people who they would vote for in the Governor's race.  There were five different answers.  Surprising, but when you read the daily back and forth comments here on Illinois Review, it is not tremendously surprising.

In this year's Governor's race, there are two very apparent things that come to mind.  A) None of the candidates are really lighting the world on fire, and B) if there was EVER a year to take back the Governor's mansion (Rod never used it, so I don't know if we are taking it back or not), this would be the year.  Good grief, the Democrats have run the state into the ground, so you would think voters would be ready for a new start with Republicans.  That is why point A above is so distressing.

GOP candidate Adam Andrzejewski posted the photo below on his Facebook page with the title "Posterous Photos," something maybe should have been titled "Preposterous Photo"?  Nevertheless, it occurred to us that this should be a featured Caption Contest photo for our clever and creative IR readers. 

So, in this photo taken during a recent Chicago Tribune editorial meeting, we have GOP gubernatorial candidates Dan Proft, Adam Andrzejewski, Bob Schillerstrom and Bill Brady.  Obviously, the conversation is spirited.   We weren't in there, so let's speculate.  Who's saying what in this photo?

Andrzejewski Calls for Statewide Ban on Teacher Strikes in Illinois

Last Wednesday, Adam Andrzejewski, Republican candidate for Governor, called on each of his 6 opponents for the Republican nomination for Governor to join him in supporting a new law to prohibit teacher strikes in Illinois. Support for this legislation was voted for by a majority of delegates to the November 21st Illinois Association of School Boards conference.  Over 12,400 school leaders from all over Illinois attended, representing approximately 375 school districts.

IFRL endorses Rodriguez in the 8th CD

Among six Republicans vying for primary nomination in the 8th CD, Long Grove Village President Maria Rodriguez is the only woman, the only elected official and the only candidate in the race endorsed today by the Illinois Federation for Right to Life.

Rodriguez told Illinois Review she's honored to receive IFRL's support and points to her strong Catholic background as a key reason she holds such strong pro-life positions. "I'm not prolife because it's a political issue," she said via phone. "I've worked for St. Mary's Catholic Church in the liturgy, and my respect for human life is tied to my religious beliefs. I'm prolife, with no exceptions."

Illinois Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Andrzejewski (ann-gee-EFF-ski) will visit the Republic of Poland as part of an economic and political fact-finding mission beginning November 28, 2009...

Giannoulias follows Andrzejewski's example and opens tax returns

Even though they're from two different political parties and running for two different statewide offices, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate, State Treasurer Alexi GIannoulias is the only statewide candidate that's followed Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Andrezjewski's example of making his income tax returns available for media scrutiny. 

Today's Chicago Tribune says almost all of Giannoulias' personal wealth has come from his family business - Broadway Bank- and an inheritance from his father.  Four years of tax returns show that Giannoulias' income dropped dramatically last year, as banking stocks plunged.

We are aware of no other statewide candidate but Andrzejewski that has made his income tax returns available via the internet.

Plainfield Township Republicans Endorse Adam Andrzejewski for Governor

The Plainfield Township Republican Organization (PTRO), one of Will County’s largest Republican organizations, has voted to endorse Adam Andrzejewski (ann-gee-EFF-ski) for Governor.  The vote was taken during their regular meeting on November 19, 2009, according to Chairman Bob Allen.

Andrzejewski: I would sell the state fleet of luxury aircraft

Elmhurst, Illinois – In response to Channel 7 investigative reporter Chuck Goudie’s report last night concerning the cost of operating the state fleet of 16 aircraft, Republican candidate for Governor Adam Andrzejewski says he would ground the aircraft, and then sell the $22 million fleet with the exception of the two helicopters and specific planes used by the Illinois State Police.  (Story Online at http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/iteam&id=7126679 )

Andrzejewski re-emphasized his plan to conduct a forensic audit of the state’s expenses.  He pointed out that Channel 7’s report indicated that state employees are using the planes regularly at a cost of $3,000 per hour totaling $4 million per year.
