As of this week, America began fighting its first case of Ebola. According to experts, it's really nothing to worry over. If you've been watching TV, listening to the radio or reading the news, you know the mantra…don't panic, we've got it under control. The Centers for Disease Control believe that our nation's lone case of the Ebola virus will be easily contained and managed, and they suggest that Americans can literally wash our hands of this West African epidemic because it falls under the category of Third World problems.
So aside from the implication by the CDC that the World Health Organization has completely botched its primary directive by letting what the CDC portrays as a filth disease become a regional epidemic, we have no reason to doubt that the experts in the federal government do, in fact, have this health concern under control….because?
It's not like the federal government ever lies.
It's not like the federal government lies about terrorist attacks on American embassies.
It's not like the federal government lies about terrorist attacks on American military bases.
It's not like the federal government uses its powerful agencies such as the IRS to suppress free political speech. It's not like the agencies lie or destroy evidence to cover up such tactics.
It's not like the federal government shows such willful disregard for human life by promoting abortion on demand as a women's health issue. It's not like the federal government has put laws in place to legally require conscientious objectors and abolitionists to pay for abortion on demand either.
It's not like the federal government has repeatedly, month after month and year after year, misreported, underreported and revised economic indicators like unemployment, housing starts, inflation, etc. so that people might become disconnected from the truth regarding our nation's economic health.
It's not like our federal government lies to us about health care laws that they enact. It's not like our federal government lies to us how much insurance will cost once they get involved in the transaction, or whether we can keep our doctors, or whether our doctors are able to treat patients in nearby hospitals, or whether there are death panels.
It's not like the federal government has repeatedly warned of the climate change brought about by the CO2 emissions of Western…just Western, mind you… economic activity that will create catastrophic events leading to the extinction of the human race.
It's not like the idea is being promulgated by members of a political movement strongly tied to the current administration that if you don't believe in Global Warming, then you don't have the right to live.
It's not like the CDC has, every year over the last half decade, warned the public of the imminent global pandemics associated with the flu virus that will wreak havoc and kill millions of people.
See, I don't know. I don't know if the Obama Administration knows what it's talking about with regard to Ebola. Do you? I don't know whether the CDC, which is a branch of the Department of Health and Human Services, is telling the truth about the improbable spread of Ebola, whether it's a Third World disease, whether washing our hands with solve the problem…because?
They lie and so when they want people to believe them because they are actually telling the truth this time, they have zero credibility. The Obama Administration has created this national crisis in confidence for the freest country in the world at a time when clear communication is imperative. Trust has been destroyed between citizen and government because the Administration lives by the credo that truth is relative and can be whatever they say it is. They wholeheartedly believe that certain members of a protected class of politicians don't have to live lives of integrity as long as they stand for all the right politically expedient causes.
So all we can do is guess what might happen to America during our first ever Ebola outbreak using our previous experiences to guide us. We can guess, for instance, that the CDC is being completely forthcoming in telling the American people everything they need to know to make healthy decisions for their own families or…
We can guess the federal government might not take actions to stop infected people from boarding planes and coming to the US because that could be construed as a form of profiling.
We can guess that people coming across our borders might not be stopped and turned back because that might make Hispanic voters take revenge against one party or another (Nah, just the one party. Who are we kidding?) at the ballot box.
We can guess that people coming across the borders might not have access to the same levels of sanitation, health care, prosperity and immunization that you or I do…if they did, there would be no reason to leave their countries of origin in the first place.
We can guess that those individuals are being placed side by side with your children in schools across the country, and that maybe no one will be paying attention as they come to school with a fever and end up vomiting all over your kid.
Worst case scenarios? Based on our federal government's willful disregard for its constitutional obligation to protect life, liberty and pursuit of happiness?
We can fear that our federal government is evolving into something that looks upon its citizens as it looks upon its national parks – as something to be managed with controlled burns that may cause high levels of destruction in the short run but will grow back into preferable populations.
We can fear that our federal government might look upon a pandemic as a good way to expand its power and influence over human lives.
We can fear that some terrorist (who would certainly never consider crossing over our unprotected border… because that would be ludicrous as everyone knows that it's just poor migrant workers crossing in search of a better way of life) would have no problem infecting himself with something like Ebola to wipe out large portions of the population in the same way he would have no problem boarding an airplane and driving it into the World Trade Center.
In November, when you are trying to decide if voting in this election is just another act of futility? When you are convincing yourself that there is no difference between the two parties? When you are looking at Quinn vs. Rauner or Durbin vs. Oberweis and still can't see what difference it makes? Ask yourself three questions.
Are you better off than you were two, four, six or eight years ago?
Could things get worse?
What might worse look like?
If you can't trust that your elected officials value your life and liberty and property as much as you do, then you've got to find someone who will.
