ALEDO - Last Friday, the Mercer County Republicans held a press conference calling for the county board to initiate a forensic audit of the county's finances and to appoint Sandy Bull - who serves as Aledo's treasurer - to be the Mercer County's treasurer.
Earlier in the week, former treasurer Mike Bertelsen pled guilty to the theft of $13,000 in county 911 funds and $800 from the Mercer County Republicans. Bertelsen paid $13,800 in restitution. His sentencing is scheduled for October.
The Mercer County Republicans plan to submit their nominee's name to the Mercer County Board at its monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 5.
