OTTAWA - Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) released the following statement in reaction to President Obama’s announcement that he has authorized the United Stated military to perform targeted air strikes and provide humanitarian aid in Iraq:
“I am cautiously optimistic that President Obama is finally beginning to take the march of violent extremism in Iraq seriously,” said Kinzinger. “However, these announced actions will not turn the tide against ISIL. Unless the United States broadens our mission to include degradation of ISIL forces and supplies, this threat will only continue to grow and pose an even greater threat to our national security.”
Kinzinger is a U.S. Air Force veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, currently serving as a Major in the Air National Guard. He is a member of the Foreign Affairs and Energy and Commerce Committees.
