RIDGWAY - A downstate Catholic congregation is rebuilding two years after a tornado destroyed their place of worship.
A new foundation was just poured for the new building that will hold 400, but the Ridgway church's original foundation will be worked into the new worship center as a place for prayer, as will a surviving marble altar and church bells.
The St. Joseph's Catholic Church will have a new name and new faces. When the new building is ready, it will be called the St. Kateri Tekakwitha, Lily of the Mohawks Parish, in Ridgway, Illinois - one of the first buildings to be named after the first Norh American saint canonized in 2012. Three local parishes will join together when services commence later this year.
