Some Hollywood producers seem surprised by the bad box office reports this summer. Why should they be surprised? Their movies have been awful and the trailers cannot hide how bad they are. What is really so amazing is that bad movies make as much money as they do. For two hours of special effects with no plot it seems many people just want to hide from the heat in an air-conditioned theater at the mall. Their expectations are so low that the AC is enough to make them content.
It is easy to make a very bad movie. All you need is a nonsense screenplay, mediocre actors, bad directors, and no plot at all. It is also desirable to have as few English lines as possible because the international audience has no problem watching car crashes and explosions that do not need translations or sub titles. What do IR readers think? Why do you think the summer movies have been so bad?
