In the last 120 years, Richard Nixon was the only non-incumbent candidate to be nominated by a major party for a second time and win a second run at The White House. But in the case of Nixon, his second run was eight years after his first run.
I am hoping that rumors about Mitt Romney wanting to run again in 2016 at the age of 69 are not true. It is true that Ronald Reagan was 69 when he was elected in 1980 but he was the oldest president ever elected. Sixty-nine years old is not the new forty-nine and It is time for Romney's generation to pass the baton to younger candidates who are authentic conservatives.
RINO candidates have not done well for president in recent years and the GOP needs to present a clear alternative in 2016 to the failed policies of the Left. Romney is not qualified to do that because he is the spiritual grandfather of Obamacare with Romneycare in Massachusetts. He also carried too much other RINO baggage to generate enthusiasm by the conservative grass roots volunteers of the GOP base that is needed for any national GOP candidate to win. I do not have an alternative candidate to suggest now in the summer of 2014 because I think the GOP base needs to concentrate now on keeping the House and winning the Senate in November. But please please, no more RINOs for president in 2016.
