Crain's Greg Hinz is reporting that a new super PAC created to help Mayor Rahm Emanuel (D) win reelection raised $1,000,000 in its first 10 days of operation.
According to Hinz, a disclosure report filed by Chicago Forward shows the PAC raised exactly $1 million from eight very well-heeled donors.
Heading the list of rich contributors is Chicago hedge-fund billionaire Ken Griffin, who recently donated $2.5 million to the campaign of GOP gubernatorial nominee Bruce Rauner.
Also included in the small group of donors was Michael Sacks, chairman and CEO of Grosvenor Capital Management L.P.; Erik Lefkofsky, co-founder and CEO of Groupon Inc.; Barry Malkin, senior managing partner of GEM Realty Capital; and Samuel Mencoff, co-CEO of private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners LLC.
