WASHINGTON - Freshman Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) rode Barack Obama's 2012 coattails to victory without revealing his financial interests as reported in his federal income tax returns. Schneider refuses to allow inspection of his finances for 2011, 2012 and 2013.
The National Republican Congressional Committee is calling for Schneider to disclose the returns and reveal to his constituents any possible conflicts of interest pertaining to his Congressional votes and the committees on which he serves.
“Congressman Schneider hiding his tax returns from the public makes the freshman member resemble the corrupt politicians who are currently staring at the walls in Illinois prisons," said NRCC spokeswoman Katie Prill Friday morning.
"If Schneider has conducted his personal finances in a legal and appropriate manner, then why is he trying to keep them from reporters in Chicago? Something just doesn’t seem right and the only way for Schneider to vindicate himself is to come clean and provide his tax returns dating back to 2011.”
Schneider is being challenged in November 2014 by former Congressman Bob Dold. Earlier this week, Schneider's FEC filings showed he raised $795,000 in the 2nd quarter for his campaign, and Dold has raised $610,000.
