PEORIA - Illinois social conservative grassroots that are feeling left out and censored within statewide Republican races are turning their interests to congressional and local races - and working instead to bolster the numbers of like-minded conservatives in the Illinois House and the U.S. House.
One of those important Congressional races social conservatives are focusing on is in the 17th CD, where former Congressman Bobby Schilling (R-Moline) is in a rematch with current incumbent Cheri Bustos (D-East Moline).
Schilling is counting on financial assistance from those who are like-minded on key issues, campaign manager Steven Shearer said this week. One opportunity to show support for Schilling will be when House Majority Leader-Elect Kevin McCarthy (CA) visits Peoria on Sunday, July 20th. McCarthy was selected by his colleagues to serve as the next House Majority Leader on June 19th and will assume the duties of Leader on August 1st.
“Having the next Majority Leader come to Peoria for Bobby Schilling within weeks of his election as Majority Leader is a windfall for the Schilling campaign,” Shearer said. “At age 49, Leader McCarthy is very young for a senior House leadership position. He will continue to be one of the top leaders in our country for a decade or two to come. Kevin McCarthy is someone people ought to get to know and Bobby Schilling is enormously grateful to him for coming to the district so soon after his election as Leader.”
The fundraiser will be a Sunday Brunch on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at the Pere Marquette Marriott Hotel in Peoria. Tickets are $150 per person and can be reserved by contacting Rachel Honegger at email@example.com or by calling 309-369-1464.
