SPRINGFIELD - A recent Capitol Fax/We Ask America poll shows GOP challenger Bruce Rauner ahead of incumbent Democrat Governor Pat Quinn by 12 points. With a 51-39 percent edge, the poll conducted July 8 among 940 likely voters included 30 percent of the calls to mobile phones.
Rauner is especially favored Downstate, where respondents chose Rauner over Quinn, 64-25 percent.
In April 2010, GOP candidate Bill Brady was ahead 45 to 38 over Quinn. The seven point lead dwindled to 43 - 39 by the week before the November election. That year, Quinn beat Brady with 46.8 of the vote to Brady's 45.9 - less than 32,000 votes between them.
