CHICAGO - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie came to Chicago Friday bearing a $2.5 million campaign fund boost to Republican Bruce Rauner from the National Governors Association.
Christie, who now heads the RGA, told Chicago reporters the gift was "a down payment," and that more funds would be coming. He said the RGA sees the Illinois gubernatorial race as one of the nation's most important in 2014.
The RGA already sent $750,000 to Rauner the day after he won the March 18th GOP primary, and a few weeks later another $750,000.
Altogether in 2010, the RGA sent nearly $8 million to boost Bill Brady's bid to beat Governor Pat Quinn. Brady lost by less than two percentage points.
