In the days leading up to the March 18, 2014 Republican Primary election, Bruce Rauner seemed to have an insurmountable lead. Most polling had him with at least a ten point lead prior to the election, although there were indications that Dillard was gaining ground. Few, though, believed that the final gap would be a mere three points.
One belief is that public employees, active and retired, turned out in large numbers for Dillard. I’ve taken the statewide voter file and merged it with the state employees database to analyze that theory.
