WASHINGTON - A third contender entered the bid for the GOP U.S. House Majority Whip Thursday, and instead of backing Illinois congressional colleague Peter Roskam for the job, 18th CD's Aaron Schock will be backing the more conservative Republican Study Committee head, Steve Scalise of Louisiana.
The third contender for the spot is Rep. Marlin Stutzman from Indiana. A new shuffling of GOP leadership will take place next Thursday to fill Representative Eric Cantor's vacancy as Minority Leader. Cantor lost his bid for re-election to David Bart in Virginia's GOP primary Tuesday.
The Sun-Times Lynn Sweet polled the Illinois GOP delegation and she says Randy Hultgren told her he is a sure vote for Roskam. Rodney Davis and Adam Kinzinger are leaning towards Roskam, but not ready to commit yet.
Shimkus remains uncommitted, as its pretty tough to decide between a colleague from Illinois and Scalise, the person with whom Shimkus rooms during session.
