After spending Sunday morning with the family, I headed out to three picnics Sunday afternoon, starting with a old fashioned backyard party sponsored by the Republican Women of Park Ridge. It was hosted by Susan Sweeney and GOP Chairman Charlene Foss-Eggemann from Maine Township.
The featured speakers were Jim Oberweis and Mel Thillins, with about 75 folks in attendance. The group meets monthly at the South Park Recreation Center with more information at republicanwomenofparkridge.com.
From there, I headed over to Indian Hill Park in Winnetka for the New Trier Republican Organization Wine and cheese and ice cream event. U.S. Senator Mark Kirk spoke, along with Jim Oberweis, Kathy Myalls, Mark Nerhoff and Evelyn Sanguetti. Among 100 picnickers was former GOP U.S. Senate candidate Jack Ryan and 42nd Ward Committeeman Eloise Gerson. Check out their website at ntro.org.
From Winnetka, I headed out to Mundelein for third GOP event of the day - the Walsh Freedom "Day of Action." Former congressman and talk radio host Joe Walsh organized people for precinct walks and phone banks all day. The day ended with an old fashioned barbecue at Joe's house in his backyard and pole barn.
People were walking for Jim Oberweis, Ramiro Juarez, Rod Drobinski, Steve Reick, Jeff Meyer, Kevin Wiley, and Don Wilson. Pastor Corey Brooks from Chicago's New Beginning Church spoke at the picnic. You'll remember him for making national headlines camping out for three months on a motel roof to raise funds for a youth center on that site. The party included hot dogs grilling, music blasting, folks dancing, and lots of talk of freedom. Check out their website at walshfreedom.com.
