EVERGREEN PARK - Next November, Democrat Senator Bill Cunningham of Chicago will face opposition from the second generation of a well-known southwest suburban Republican family. The son of the late State Representative and Cook County Board of Reviews commissioner Maureen Murphy and her husband Jack is stepping up his political game with a bid to represent the 18th Senate district.
Shaun Murphy, who currently serves as the GOP Chairman of Worth Township, is a certified public accountant and serves as the vice president of the Evergreen Park Community High School District #231 school board.
“I look forward to providing a real choice for the voters on the November ballot and a healthy debate of the issues affecting our local community and Springfield throughout the campaign,” Murphy said. “My campaign will focus on the issues that matter most to our community: job creation, lower taxes, term limits and responsible government spending.”
Murphy believes his background as a forensic Certified Public Accountant and a former small business owner provides him with the skills necessary to attack the budget issues confronting the state.
“The status quo of one party rule in Springfield is simply not working," Murphy said. "I hope to provide a competent, independent voice to Springfield that properly represents the Southwest Side and Suburbs of Chicago.”
Murphy also serves on the IL GOP State Central Committee for the 1st Congressional District, and in 2012, he went to the Republican National Convention as a delegate for Mitt Romney.
