JOLIET - What Republican candidate for the 97th House District Mark Batinick has been suspecting for weeks came to fruition Tuesday when the Herald-News confirmed that his Democrat opponent was dropping out of November's election.
Batinick was the first to question why Dennis Grosskopf's name wasn't among those for which House Speaker Mike Madigan was raising funds at an end-of-the-session fundraiser in Springfield. Democrat candidates names like Loren Karmer, Bill Kilquist, Anna Moeller and Moira Dunn appeared on the flyer - but Dennis Krosskopf's name was not included.
Grosskopf, a teacher in the Minooka High School District and teacher's union president, told the paper that due to his current roles, he doesn't have the time necessary to devote to the campaign. He also serves as treasurer of the Democratic Organization of Troy Township, the Plainfield Patch reports.
Since the name "Moira Dunn" is listed as one of the Democrat Majority's 2014 candidates, the Will County State's Attorney assistant, many expect her to be picked as the candidate to challenge Batinick in November.
