SPRINGFIELD - On Illinois' first day of statewide legalized gay marriage Westboro Baptist protesters will be outside the State Capitol, a press release from the church said Monday.
"Each rebel in the IL legislature will stand before God in the judgment and account for eading the people to error in running to this abomination," the announcement says. Signs saying "Same Sex marriage dooms nations" and "America is doomed," is featured on the press release, which says the Westboro picket will be held on Monday, June 2 from 8:45 to 9:15 am "in dire warning" to state lawmakers.
A subsequent announcement says the group will also be picketing the Sangamon County marriage bureau earlier June 2. "Quit your job before you give a fag a marriage license!" Westboro exhorts.
Several Illinois counties - including the most populated, Cook - have already been offering same sex marriage licenses after a federal judge overruled the date when same sex marriage licenses could be distributed.
The Illinois legislature is scheduled to adjourn May 27th.
