In a poll released today by the Illinois Mirror and conducted by Where America Stands, shows Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner leading Democrat Gov. Pat Quinn by 18 points.
The automated poll of 1,168 likely voters resulted in Rauner enjoying 48.9 percent support and Quinn only 31.1 percent, with 16 percent still undecided.
Conducted May 12, the poll stands in contrast to an April poll by Rasmussen Reports, that showed Rauner with just a three-point lead over the incumbent. A May 4 poll by We Ask America, which is affiliated with the Illinois Manufacturers Association, had Rauner up on Quinn by 19 points.
Respondents to the poll self-identified as Democrat 43 percent, with 37 percent identifying as Republican and 20 percent Independent. The remaining were split between Libertarian and the Green Party.
