Monday night, The Illinois Republican Party - under the leadership of Jack Dorgan - celebrated Cinco de Mayo Day at Hub 51 in downtown Chicago. Sponsors of the evening's festivities included the Republican National Hispanic Assembly. The theme was, " Renew-Grow-Win." Co-host Joe Galvan introduced the main speaker, Evelyn Sanguinetti, the GOP lieutenant governor candidate and running mate of Bruce Rauner.
The event drew about 100 candidates, donors and supporters including State Rep. Tom Cross, judicial candidate John Curry, Leslie Munger, IL GOP National Committeeman Richard Porter, Chicago Young Republican prez Angel Garcia, State Central Committee members Carol Smith Donavan, Judy Diekelman and Jay Reyes, along with Jovita Carranza, Coby Hakalir, and Stefanie Linares, who is running against Democrat Senate President John Cullerton.
Longtime Chicago 43rd ward resident Vince Kohlber announced he is planning a run for Congress in the 5th against Democrat Congressman Mike Quigley.
Attendees munched on appetizers of mini tacos, sliders, and a cucumber sushi treat.
There appears to be major momentum growing with Illinois Republicans. They hope for big wins in November, including a Republican Governor with Bruce Rauner. The election is Tuesday, November 4, 2014.
