WEST CHICAGO - Monday night, Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) hosted local high school artists in his West Chicago Office for the annual 6th District Congressional Art Competition reception. From dozens of submissions, three students were recognized for their outstanding artistic talent by an independent local judge.
Andra Jankauskaite from Downers Grove North High School was chosen as the overall Sixth District winner for her work, “Disorderly Conduct.” Jankauskaite will receive two roundtrip tickets to Washington, D.C. to attend a national reception and have her work displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a full year.
“For over 30 years, the Congressional Art Competition has showcased the amazing ability of our nation’s most talented young artists,” said Roskam. “I am always impressed by the creativity and ability these students demonstrate, and this year was no exception. My wife Elizabeth and I truly enjoyed spending the evening with area high school artists, and as an artist herself this competition is near and dear to Elizabeth’s heart. Congratulations to all the artists who participate, and I hope this is just the beginning of their interest and participation in the arts.”
Two Merit Winners, Aubrey Saha from Downers Grove North High School and Eveline Liu from Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, will have their artwork displayed in Roskam’s West Chicago District Office for one year. The art was judged by Suzanne Massion, a juried member of Oil Painters of America as well as a member of the Illinois Artisans Program and the DuPage Art League.
