EVANSTON - While insiders confirmed that Blair Garber had expressed interest in being the next Illinois Republican Party Chairman, the State Central Committeeman's enthusiasm for the position quickly faded following the announcement that Jack Dorgan and Bruce Rauner had already endorsed Tim Schneider for the job.
In a statement today, Garber wrote:
"It's no secret I believe the election of Bruce Rauner as governor is the best thing that could possibly happen for the taxpayers of Illinois. I've been and shall continue to be fully committed to that goal and a strong and united GOP.
Never allowing our internal deliberative process to be mischaracterized as showing wavering, hesitation or lack of support for our agenda is part of my commitment. I am happy to support Tim Schneider for Illinois Republican Party Chairman."
No other challengers appear to be running for Saturday's election in Springfield.
