WASHINGTON - Wednesday, a Nigerian girl described before Congress how Muslim jihadists Boko Haram murdered her father when he would not deny his Christianity.
Deborah Peter is a survivor of ongoing Boko Haram violence. On the night of Dec. 22, 2011, in the town of Chibok, both her father and brother were killed in front of her. Now living in the U.S., the teenager is speaking out against Boko Haram's abduction of more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls, some of whom she says she knew.
The Scripture Deborah says her father recited to Boko Haram before they murdered him comes from Jesus Christ in Matthew 10:32-33: "Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven."
