By refusing to hear an appeal from Elaine Photography on Monday, The United States Supreme Court unleashed a frightening reality: we now live in a country where the government can force a photographer to take pictures against his or her will. A free people cannot in good conscience obey such a law. It's time to actively resist.
Elaine Photography in New Mexico was sued in 2006 for refusing to photograph a same-sex couple's commitment ceremony. The Christian photographers argued in court that compelling them to take pictures violated their free speech rights and forced them to be a party to something that went against their religious beliefs. They also said that the First Amendment gave them the right to decide what pictures to take or abstain from taking.
The New Mexico Supreme Court ruled last August that the business's refusal to take the pictures violated the state's Human Rights Act and discriminated against the gay couple. The business owners faced fines, public embarrassment, and possible prison time. They appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, who today decided not to take up their appeal, letting the lower court ruling stand and impacting similar rulings around the country.
It is time to say to our government -- that's enough. I will not follow your laws which go against my God-given rights. Its time to resist -- in an organized fashion. This decision today is the final straw. It's bad enough that a free people are no longer able to keep half of what they make, are unable to freely exercise their 2nd Amendment rights, have lost control of their basic health care decisions, and are forced to subsidize contraceptive products that go against their religious beliefs. Now we wake up to a government that can force a baker to bake a cake or a photographer to take a picture or a caterer to work a wedding reception.
What is a free people prepared now to do? They must be prepared to engage in organized civil disobedience, break the law, and go to jail. They must be prepared to revolt against a government that has exceeded its authority.
This is what our Founders warned us about. We are now living in it. I can only speak for myself: I don't care what the gun laws say, I will use a firearm whenever and wherever I want to defend myself and my property. I don't care what Obamacare says, the government can never force me to purchase health care and I will never pay a fine. I don't care what the various taxing bodies say, I will no longer pay half of what I earn to the government. And I don't care what a court rules, as a private business owner, I will decide who I do business with. Go ahead, throw me in jail.
The revolution is upon us. Are you prepared to do whatever it takes to defend your freedoms?
