SUGAR GROVE - Republican U.S. Senate nominee Jim Oberweis released his 2012 and 2013 federal income tax returns today, which seem to show he pays a higher effective tax rate than his opponent U.S. Senator Dick Durbin.
Oberweis showed $1,053,490 in adjusted gross income in 2012 and $1,371,671 in 2013. In 2012 he paid $299,785 in taxes for an effective federal tax rate of 28.3 percent. In 2013, he paid $439,300 in taxes for an effective federal tax rate of 32 percent.
Durbin paid an effective tax rate of 20.9 percent, according to his 2012 return.
“I have been blessed to have business success and am grateful that success has translated into jobs and prosperity for Illinois families,” said Oberweis. “I want every Illinoisan to have a piece of the American dream. Unfortunately, under the leadership of Dick Durbin and his big government allies, jobs are scarce, poverty is rising and the poor and middle class are suffering in Illinois and America. We need to change that.”
