The controversy arose after State Rep. Scott Drury and Congressman Brad Schneider, both Democrats, held a forum about gun violence. Both lawmakers have been very resistant to private citizens owning guns. The event, put together by Drury, was announced by Schneider in the Lake County News-Sun.
Louis Atsaves who runs the "Common Sense in the 10th" blog wrote: "Of interest, the forum was not held in North Chicago, where a young 15 year old was just gunned down in cold blood in what police seemed to feel was gang related."
Atsaves is asking for anyone with photos of Congressman Schneider refusing to honor the symbol of American freedom to contact him.
Congressman Schneider had not comment when asked by Illinois Review about the incident. Staci McCabe, Schneider's communications director in the DC office would not confirm or deny Schneider's reported actions.
