While Democrats were sleeping in last Saturday morning, the Chicago Republicans were up at 8am listening to candidates, networking, downing coffee and eating donuts. The Chicago GOP headquarters is hosting meet and greets every couple of weeks at their headquarters at 2832 North Lincoln Avenue just south of Diversey, and Saturday they were busy getting ready for March 18th.
Last week, GOP candidate for state treasurer Tom Cross, who is now an Illinois State representative, spoke to the crowd. He faces a primary with Bob Grogran, who is a CPA. Also speaking Saturday was Paul Schimpf. who has no GOP primary challenge. Schimpf hopes to unseat Lisa Madigan for State Attorney General. He's a retired Marine who promises to clean up Illinois.
GOP House candidate Myles Tobin (9th district) also spoke to voters.
The Chicago GOP's meetings are hosted by committeemen Chris Cleveland and Scott Davis. Chicago Republican voters may be sleeping giants, once awakened will make a huge impact on policy and elections. The next breakfast meeting will be Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 8:30AM. All are invited, stop by and have a free coffee.
